The MK 39 Expendable Mobile Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Target, or EMATT, was designed through the eyes of a submariner. The result is a small, dynamic submarine-like target equipped with acoustic and non-acoustic signatures. Lockheed Martin Sippican has produced over 14,000 EMATT's for the U.S. Navy and other allied navies around the world. Designed to replicate the sounds and movement of a diesel submarine in deep or shallow water, vary speed and passive tonal levels. The Mk 39 EMATT is easily deployed from surface ships or ASW aircraft. EMATT offers ASW forces the opportunity to practise the complete ASW problem from detection to attack in the open ocean in any area of operations. The capability for launch from ASW aircraft gives EMATT an added dimension previously lacking in ASW training. The Mk 39 also has the capability to simultaneously interact with all sonars, towed arrays, dipping sonars and sonobuoys, both active and passive. |
