omschrijvingSolid half-basket hilted sword. Owned by Lieutenant R.C. Richards (active 1929-36). The solid half-basket hilt has raised bars and crown and anchor badge (post-1901 crown). There is a lion's-head pommel and back-piece- the mane extending its full length- and a prominent tang button. White fish-skin grip bound with three gilt wires. The hilt is hinged and pierced on the reverse. Blade is straight- flat-backed- with a spear point. There is a black leather scabbard with two gilt lockets- chape with pointed shoe- and ring suspension. The lockets have a thread decoration. The swordknot is of the 1891 pattern. Engraved on the hinged flap of the hilt is 'R.C.RICHARDS'. The obverse of the blade is engraved at the shoulder with a Star of David and a proofmark. The reverse is engraved with a crown and anchor and etched decoration. Lieutenant R.C. Richards: Lieutenant (E) 1 April 1929; Sub-Lieutenant (E) 1 March 1928; retired 1936.
