omschrijvingSolid half-basket hilted sword. Owned by Gunner A.J.C. Farlow (active 1941). The hilt consists of a solid half-basket with raised bars and crown above and an anchor badge (crown is 1901-52 type). There is a lion's-head pommel and back-piece- the mane extending its full length- and a prominent tang button. The white fish-skin grip is bound with three gilt wires. The hilt is hinged and pierced on the reverse. Blade is straight- flat-backed with a single fuller running for two-thirds of its length- and a spear point. There is a black leather scabbard with two gilt lockets and chape- with a pointed shoe and ring suspension. The lockets have a thread decoration. The swordknot is of 1891 onwards type and is in good condition. The sword came in a black leather carrying case. The blade is decorated with dull and bright work. The obverse is inscribed with floral scrolls- and a central fouled anchor with crown above. The reverse has floral scrolls- with Royal arms. There is a proofmark on the obverse shoulder. A.J.C. Farlow: Gunner 1 January 1932; Commissioned Gunner 1 October 1941. July - October 1944 disappears from the Navy List. This sword was presented together with W78 - 19.1 - Frock Coat. W78-19.2 - cocked hat. W78 - 19.4 - Enfield rifle of 1857 with later Snider Conversion.
