omschrijvingStraight-bladed dirk. Owned by George and Henry Symons (died 1819). The hilt consists of a turned ivory grip with brass pommel- ferrule and circular shell. The pommel is decorated with a flower and green key pattern- the latter also adorning the ferrule. The shell is concave and has an edging panel of lines. The blade has a slightly flattened oval section- tapering to a sharp point - a stiletto (?) and there are very faint traces of etching on the blade- what appears to be a foliage motif. The brass scabbard has two suspension rings. There is no shoe to the chape- but a button finish. The throat of the scabbard is shaped to fit the shell. One of the dirks belonging to twins George and Henry Symons- who died aged sixteen years in HMS Sybilla at Villa Cruz- 1819. Ancestors of Miss Huddart. See also WPN1520.
afmetingenBlade: 140 x 13 mm
