omschrijvingSmall-sword of Civil Branch of Royal Navy (Secretary). The gilt small-sword hilt has an olive pommel- pronounced tang button- rudimentary pas d'ane- and the obverse of a shell hinged downwards. The brown horn grip is bound with three copper wires- and has a gilt plate on the obverse side with a crown over foul anchor engraved upon it. The blade is triangular and hollow much worn engravings. On the obverse this consists of- some almost erased decoration- the Royal arms with supporters and 'DIEU ET MON DROIT' below- and the remainder is indecypherable. The reverse is engraved with- almost erased decoration- a foul anchor with crown above and decoration including a winged cherub. The scabbard is wood covered with black leather- most of which has been restored- two gilt lockets (with rings) and chape- all decorated with lines. The top locket has a frog button- and is engraved on the reverse 'DUDLEY/ Grand Parade/ PORTSMOUTH'.
