omschrijvingCurved bladed dirk- the hilt of the dirk consists of inversed quillons- which are decorated with spirals and langets. The obverse of the langets is decorated with a globe- Britannia's shield- fasces and foliage. The reverse of the langets is decorated with Britannia's shield- a shield with a star- a drum and foliage. The dirk has a gilt pommel- made in the form of a recumbent lion and a gilt back-piece. The chain guard is missing. The grip is ivory. The steel blade- was originally damascened in blue and gold- of which little now remains. The blade is curved and the obverse of the blade is engraved with foliage and a trophy including guns. The reverse of the blade is engraved with foliage- a Royal cypher 'GR' with a crown above and a trophy with flags. The black leather scabbard has a gilt chape and two lockets with rings. The obverse of the scabbard is decorated with a chequered pattern and a foliage motif. There is a lion's face on the chape. The top locket is decorated in reverse with foliage motifs and engraved with the words 'Irish Portsmouth'.
