omschrijvingCutlass- the hilt of a cutlass consists of a steel half-basket guard. The cutlass has a black cast iron grip. The cutlass has a straight- flat steel blade with a double-edged spear point. The blade was cut down in 1875. The obverse of the blade is engraved with the letter 'W' and a crown motif with the letter 'E' above- and the number '12' below- along with the letter 'N'. The reverse of the blade is engraved with the letters 'R'- 'W' and 'S' and a crown motif with the letters 'BR' above and the number '8' below. The letter 'S' has been stamped over a previous mark- which was either the letter 'E' or the letter 'F'. The brown leather scabbard has a brass locket- a frog hook and chape. Inside the throat of the scabbard are two flat springs- which retain the blade in the scabbard by pressing on each side of the cutlass. The reverse of the scabbard is stamped with the letters 'N' and 'W'- a crown motif with the letter 'E' above it and the number '1' below. The obverse of the locket is stamped with the number '3'.
