omschrijvingCutlass- the hilt of a cutlass consists of a sheet steel half-basket guard. The cutlass has a black cast iron grip. The cutlass has a straight- flat steel blade with a double-edged spear point. The blade was cut down in 1875- when it was reduced in width from 38mm to the present width of 29mm. The obverse of the blade is engraved with the letter 'N'. The reverse of the blade is engraved with the letters 'RW' and a crown motif above the letters 'BB' and the number '9' and below the number '3'. The brown leather scabbard has a brass locket- a frog hook and chape. Inside the throat of the scabbard are two flat springs- which retain the blade in the scabbard by pressing down on each side of the cutlass. The obverse of the scabbard is stamped with a crown motif above the number '2'. The reverse of the scabbard is stamped with the letter 'N'; an arrow above the letters 'WD'; a crown motif with the letter 'E' above and the number '12' below. The obverse of the locket is stamped with a crown motif.
