omschrijvingCutlass- the hilt of the cutlass consists of a black steel- half-basket guard. The cast iron grip has been moulded. The flat steel blade is slightly curved- with a double-edged spear point. The obverse of the blade is engraved with an arrow above the letters 'WD'- a crown and the letter 'E' with the number '30' below it. The reverse of the blade is engraved with the letter 'C' and the number '87'- a crown and the letter 'B' with the number '13' below it. The reverse of the blade is also engraved with the name 'HEIGHINGTON'. The blade of the cutlass is originally thought to have come from a cutlass dating from 1875- which had a 737mm blade. The blade was subsequently shortened to 686mm and fitted to this cutlass.
