omschrijvingRoyal Marines sword- the hilt of the sword consists of a gilt- open half basket guard engraved with the King's cypher 'W IV R' beneath a crown. There is a folding flap on the inside of the guard- and the whole is lined with black patent leather. The sword has a black fish-skin grip- which is bound with three gilt wires. The pommel of the sword is flat- whilst the back-piece is slightly fluted. The steel blade is slightly curved- and the pipe is backed to within 230 mm of the point. The obverse and the reverse of the blade are engraved with the Royal cypher 'W IV R' below a crown. The black leather scabbard has two gilt lockets- rings and chape. The top locket has a stud on the obverse for frog suspension. The locket and chape are ornamented with fluted threads and scrolls. The sword knot is made from gold tape with a crimson and gold textile tassel.
