omschrijvingCurved bladed dirk- the hilt of the dirk consists of straight quillons and langets which are decorated in relief with a crown and foul anchor motif. The dirk has a lion's-head pommel and back-piece- the mane extending half the length of the back-piece. The lion's mouth comes complete with an 'eye' which originally accommodated a light chain guard which is now missing. The white ivory grip is diamond knurled. The steel blade is very curved and double-edged. The blade is undecorated. The black leather scabbard has two gilt lockets with a stud on the top locket and a ring on the mid locket- and a gilt chape. Captain H.T. Bosanquet notes in his book 'The Naval Officer's Sword' (HMSO 1955) that 'the scabbard is not that properly appertaining to the dirk but it is of the same contemporary pattern'.
