omschrijvingStraight stirrup hilted 'fighting' sword- which was issued to Royal Naval Masters- Mates and Warrant Officers. The hilt of the sword consists of a gilt stirrup guard with langets. The langets are engraved with an anchor and cable motif. The sword has a stepped pommel and a back-piece with a 'flute'. The black fish-skin grip is bound with three gilt wires. The straight- flat-backed bright steel blade has a single broad fuller running to the point. The blade is engraved with naval emblems- a crown and an anchor motif and the Royal coat of arms. Regulation blade dimensions were 812mm x 29mm- so this blade is longer than regulation blades. The black leather scabbard has two gilt lockets- rings and chape. The top locket is engraved with the words 'Neck- 16- Ordnance Row- Portsea'. Dress regulations of the 1st January 1825 state 'Sword of the same pattern and length as commissioned officers- but the back-piece of the handle to be plain- with a flute round the top and down the back with a black fish-skin grip bound with three gilt wires; the etchings of the blade not blued or gilt'.
afmetingenBlade: 838 x 29 mm
