The obverse of the blade is engraved with the words 'FOREST- CORK ST- LONDON'- and decorated with crossed flags above and decoration above and below and between. The reverse of the blade is decorated with a crown over a wreath- with decoration above and below. The black leather scabbard has a gilt locket with a shell frog-button- and a chape.
Reverend Henry Bellairs (1790-1872) was born in 1790 and served as a Midshipman in HMS 'Spartiate' at Trafalgar- where he was wounded. After this he left the Royal Navy and in 1808 was appointed Cornet in the 15th Hussars- being promoted to Lieutenant in 1809. He resigned from the Army in 1811 and took Holy Orders- becoming Rural Dean and Honorary Canon of Worcester Cathedral and Chaplain to the Earl of Strafford. He was also a J.P. for the County of Lincoln. He died in 1872.
