omschrijvingLloyds Patriotic Fund £100 Trafalgar pattern presentation sword- which belonged to Vice-Admiral Sir Richard King (1774-1834). He was the only son of Admiral Sir Richard King (1730-1806) and entered the Royal Navy in 1788. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 14 November 1791 and to Commander in 1793. He was promoted to Captain on 14 May 1794- to Rear-Admiral of the Blue on 12 August 1812- to Rear-Admiral of the White on 4 June 1814 and to Vice-Admiral on 19 July 1821. He succeeded to the baronetcy in November 1806 and became a KCB on 2 January 1815. In 1803- he married- Sarah Anne Duckworth- the only daughter of Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth (1748-1817). In 1822 he married his second wife- Maria Susanna Cotton- the daughter of Admiral Sir Charles Cotton (1753-1812). He died on 4 August 1834. The obverse of the blade is engraved with the words 'FROM THE PATRIOTIC FUND AT LLOYDS TO RICHARD KING ESQR OF H.M.S. ACHILLE FOR HIS MERITORIOUS SERVICES IN CONTRIBUTING TO THE SIGNAL VICTORY OBTAINED OVER THE COMBINED FLEETS OF FRANCE & SPAIN OFF CAPE TRAFALGAR ON THE 21 OCT 1805'.
