omschrijvingA seascape towards an empty horizon. Everett has used colour in an atmospheric work showing the relationship between the sea, sky and sun. The painting shows a calm sea with the sun as partly obscured by cloud. It is painted in brilliant colour in the centre of the image. Close to the horizon the sky glows salmon pink and is streaked with colour to denote clouds. The calm sea is painted in muted tones of grey and blue and the movement of the waves is suggested by darker short blue brush strokes. Reflections from the sun are painted yellow and play across the surface of the sea in the foreground. There is an inscription top right of centre, '0 56 N12 W', that indicates the actual position of the ship at the time of the sketch. This suggests that the ship is heading for Cape Verde and therefore may be the trip he took on the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis' in 1932. The painting is inscribed with the artist's monogram bottom right.
