omschrijvingA sketch showing waves from the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis'. The low viewpoint means that the viewer is looking down on the sea. The artist has explored the effects of such an experience by creating an almost three-dimensional sensation in the movement of the waves. He has concentrated on their rhythmic nature by creating a diagonal pattern along the crests of the waves. In the foreground they swirl in and curve at the peak as one wave merges into the next. The sea is shown as layers of greens and blues breaking into white foam on the crests. The relentlessness of the sea is shown through the repetitiveness of the waves on the left. Everett sailed in the Greek-owned steamer, 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis', from Cardiff, Wales, to Montevideo, Uruguay, and back between December 1931 and March 1932. The painting is inscribed 'PMH' verso.
