omschrijvingA sketch of the sea made while Everett was at Corbiere in Jersey. He was there from 13 January to 6 February for three weeks. The artist has sketched the rhythmic sequencing of the waves using hatched patterning to depict their movement. The sky contrasts with the sea and there is a source of brilliant light coming from the left of the sky. Towards the horizon the artist has loosely sketched the profile of several ships, a sailing ship on the right and a steamer with black smoke rising on the left. The sky is a bright pink above a dark bank of cloud. Everett has used the buff colour of the paper to enhance the dramatic effect of this rapidly painted sketch. The artist's monogram is bottom right recto.
