omschrijvingA rapid sketch from the 'Castilian', capturing the effects of light in the sky. The sea is loosely sketched, and the horizon is indicated by a dark wash of grey paint. Immediately above this the sky is shown by a lighter grey wash and the rest of the sky is bathed in a bright light streaked with a lemon- yellow wash. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Castilian', from London to the Mediterranean, between October 1937 and February 1938. This was his last journey to sea, probably because of World War II. The painting is inscribed with the artist's monogram bottom right, and 'Cas' verso.
