omschrijving | Plate, part of the service made for the royal tour of the British Empire in 1901 by the Duke of York (later King George V) and his Duchess. They travelled in 'HMS Ophir', an Orient Steam Navigation Co liner chartered as a royal yacht.
The plate is porcelain with a gilt rim and green border decorated with gilt circles (pheasant eye design). In the centre, on a white background, is printed a crowned anchor bearing a white rose surrounded by a garter belt inscribed: 'HONI . SOIT . QUI . MAL . Y . PENSE'. In addition to the maker's mark, the base is printed with the name of the retailer Thomas Goode & Co Ltd, London and the painted pattern number 'C1247B'.
