omschrijvingTablespoon from HMS 'Encounter', circa 1914. Plated tablespoon of plain fiddle pattern. The ship's name 'HMS ENCOUNTER' and the monogram 'WR' are engraved on the handle, and surmounted by a naval crown. HMS 'Encounter was a light cruiser built in 1902 and scuttled off Sydney in 1932. The spoon probably dates from before 1914, or during World War I, and is likely to be part of a set used in the Ward Room (hence 'WR') and purchased privately by the officers.
