omschrijvingSilver teapot presented to Captain Nicholas Tomlinson (d.1847) for the capture of privateers in 1796. Plain octagonal teapot with a straight spout, ebony handle with spur, and a hinged lid with a fluted ivory finial. On one side is engraved the coat of arms of Tomlinson, complete with crest; the other side is engraved: 'PRESENTED by the Committee for encouraging the capture of French Privateers &c &c TO CAPTn TOMLINSON July 8th 1796.' It was presented by a descendant of Admiral Tomlinson to the NMM, together with two matching tea-urns, a sugar basin and cream jug.
