omschrijvingSilver dinner plate from Lord Nelson's Copenhagen service. Plain circular plate with a gadrooned rim, engraved on the border with the complete arms of Nelson with a viscount's coronet and supporters, but no crests. The coat of arms is inscribed with mottoes: 'TRIA IUNCTA IN UNO' and 'PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT'. This plate is one of nine in the NMM collection. In 1801 the Committee of Lloyd's underwriters awarded to Nelson, for his service at the Battle of Copenhagen that year, the sum of £500 to purchase silver, to add to a similar award after the Battle of the Nile in 1798. The combined silver service, which was supplied by the London goldsmiths Rundell & Bridge, included six dozen plates and 18 soup plates.
