omschrijvingSilver salver with the arms of Vice Admiral Sir Thomas Hardy (1769-1839) Circular salver with a gadrooned border, standing on four shaped feet. The coat of arms engraved in the centre of the salver shows Hardy's arms with the badge of a baronet (4 February 1806) added to his earlier pre-1806 arms, with the heraldic tinctures properly depicted in the engraved lines according to the heraldic convention: 'sable on a chevron between 3 scallops or, as many wyvern's heads erased of the field. Crest: A wyvern's head erased sable'. It is likely that the engraver was not aware that Hardy had been granted a very slightly different coat of arms on 18 January 1806. The base of the salver is engraved 'Vice Admiral Sir Thomas M Hardy G.C.B.'. This engraving must be a later addition, since he was only made a GCB in 1831 and a Vice Admiral in January 1837.
