omschrijvingFreedom casket presented to Admiral of the Fleet Sir David Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty (1871-1936) by the County Borough of Grimsby, 28 April 1919. Freedom casket covered in navy blue leather, silver-mounted, with enamel coats of arms. The corners of the lid are set with pink and purple semi-precious stones, three in each corner mounted in silver. The top has Beatty's coat of arms in coloured enamel in an oval silver plaque and the motto 'NON VI SED ARTE'. The front has a pierced silver lock cover with oak leaves, acorns, and a coloured enamel badge of Grimsby with 'A CITIZEN OF NO MEAN CITY'. The body of the casket is decorated with vertical silver strips, and there are disk-shaped silver feet. Inside is a silver plaque inscribed: 'PRESENTED WITH THE FREEDOM OF THE COUNTY BOROUGH OF GRIMSBY TO SIR DAVID BEATTY GCB., GCVO., KCB & ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET APRIL 28TH 1919'. The casket contains a silk-backed illuminated scroll on an ivory rod.
