omschrijvingA creamware jug, transfer-printed with a portrait in black of the Duke of Clarence, later William IV (1765-1837). Inscribed below it: 'THE ROYAL BRITISH TAR', 'He's Royal, he's Noble, he's Chosen to be/The Guard of our Island & Prince of the Sea'. On the other side is shown a naval action and the royal monogram 'GR'. There is also a hand-painted inscription 'Elizabeth Stopperth Down Holland 1789 Success to the Dairy'. Flower sprays are printed below the rim on either side and floral swags around the base. The lip and handle are decorated with hand-painted flowers.
