omschrijving | Oval meat dish, part of a service belonging to HRH the Duke of Clarence, later William IV (1765-1837). In the centre, surrounded by gold decoration is an oval grisaille painting showing a figure representing Hope, in classical dress, seated on a rock holding the fluke of an anchor, a very distant ship in the background at sea. The dish has a scalloped rim and a border painted in blue, gold and white. The maker's mark of Barr, Flight and Barr is printed on the base. The service is often erroneously described as the 'Nelson Service' and said to depict Lady Hamilton's 'attitudes'. It is also referred to as the 'Hope Service'.
