omschrijvingOval meat dish, part of a service belonging to HRH the Duke of Clarence, later William IV (1765-1837). In the centre, surrounded by gold decoration is an oval grisaille painting showing a figure representing Hope, in classical dress, reclining on the seashore in front of a rock looking out to sea. There is a small anchor at her feet and a port quarter view of a ship under sail in the background. The dish has a scalloped rim and a border painted in blue, gold and white. The maker's mark 'Flight' with a crown and crescent is painted on the base. The service is often erroneously described as the 'Nelson Service' and said to depict Lady Hamilton's 'attitudes'. It is also referred to as the 'Hope Service'.
