omschrijvingCreamware jug, transfer-printed in black with a portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) on one side, inscribed 'England expects every Man to do his duty' and below 'ADMIRAL LORD NELSON/Born Septr 29 1758-Died Octr 21 1805/Aged 47'. On the other side a battle plan of Trafalgar, inscribed 'BATTLE off TRAFALGAR Gained by the British Fleet under LD NELSON on the 21 of Octr 1805, against the combined Fleet of France and Spain in which action the intrepid Nelson fell covered with Glory and renown', 'The Enemy's Line consisted of 18 French and 15 Spanish, making 33 to our 27. The action began at Noon, the Guns muzzle to muzzle, and at 3 O Clock PM it terminated splendidly glorious to the British Arms 19 Ships of the Line struck in which were 3 Flag Officers viz Adml. Villeneauve Commander in chief, Don Ignatio Maria d. Avila (since dead) Vice Admiral, and Don Baltazar Hidalgo Cisneros, Rear Admiral'. Under the lip of the jug is shown a print of Hercules wielding his club at the three-headed dog, Cerberus. The image of Nelson is based on the engraving by J. Chapman, published in December 1798 (see PAD3884).
