It is transfer-printed in black on one side with a portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) in an oval border, inscribed above 'England expects every Man to do his duty' and below 'ADMIRAL LORD NELSON/Born Septr 29 1758-Died Octr 21 1805/Aged 47'. The image of Nelson is based on the engraving by J. Chapman, published in December 1798 (see PAD3884). On the other side a list of ships in the Battle of Trafalgar with the number of guns: 'The order in which the Ships of the British squadrons attacked the Combined Fleets of France and Spain Oct 21 1805'. Below the lip, Britannia seated with a shield, anchor, bales of merchandise, palm branch and ships. 'BRITANNIA/May Peace upon the Nation smile/And plenty crown the British Isle'.
