omschrijvingCreamware jug commemorating the Battle of Trafalgar, 1805. It is transfer-printed in black with a stern view of two warships in action, inscribed above 'Defeat of the Santissima Trinidada of 140 guns by the Victory of 80 guns in the glorious action off Cape Trafalgar on the 21st October 1805 in which Lord Nelson lost his life.' The number of guns is incorrect. Below the action: 'SUCCESS to the NAVY'. On the other side of the jug, an oval, half-length portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) with two ships below. 'VICTORY' inscribed below the right hand ship. 'England Expects that every Man will do his Duty/And we will have Twenty of them. LORD NELSON./When inform'd Fifteen of the Enemies/Ships had struck Peacefuly (sic)/sunk into the Arms of Death'.
