John Griffin | 2008-12-10 | 13:48:151902: The ship was built in 1902 by De. Boot Alphen a/d Rijn. The ship was built for Th. Borst. from Zwammerdam. The ship's name was "Samuel". The family were butter/milk traders so guess the boat was built to haul dairy products. 1911: The ship was sold to Dirk Kerkmeer from Zandam(think he must have moved there from Barsingerhorn). The ship's name was now "Henriette". Dirk's wife was names Henriette. It is normal to name a ship after your wife. The Kerkmeer were all farmers so we think the ship was used to haul farm goods? 1926: The ship was sold to B.Hystek from Haarlemmermeer. The ship was renamed "Annetje". Bastiaan Hystek's wife was named Annetje. We have meet the family and have spoken to Bastiaan's son who was a young boy in 1926 and remembers when they bought the ship. They used the ship to lift pipes from a very large ship to the shore. It was used as a crane ship. 1965: The ship was sold again to Albert Vuur. The ship was renamed "Jeannet". Albert now lives Leiderdorp. 1983: The ship was sold to Williem Bercham from Werkendam. In the normal tradition the ship renamed after his wife "Antje" but they called it "Vrouwe Antje". The ship was only used for pleasure. 2004 We (Jane and John Griffin) bought Vrouwe Antje but in England it is bad luck to rename a ship so we kept the name the same.
