omschrijvingKaart van Suriname met de plantages door de Engelse kaartenmaker John Thornton. De kaart dateert vermoedelijk van omstreeks 1675-1683, maar toont het beeld van voor de Engelse overdracht van Suriname aan de Republiek. De kaart is zeer vermoedelijk gebaseerd op twee manuscriptkaarten, nu in de John Carter Brown Library. Eén daarvan is op perkament en gedateerd 1667 (titel:A discription of the coleny of Surranam in Guiana drawne in the year 1667 : the planters names as they are settled in theire plantations in the severall parts of the cuntry: the land is low and uery full of woods: its very bad trauelling from one plantation to another without boats). De ander is in de Blathwayt-atlas.
