Quelimane is not located on the Zambezi river. It is at the mouth of the Cuacau River, also called the Quelimane River, or Rio dos Bons Sinais. Quelimane was important in the 19th century because steamboats could sail up the river and eventually reach the Zambezi. The building in the picture is probably the Dutch factory (trading post) at Quelimane. It is depicted on the photo TM-60033907 in the collection of the Wereldmuseum Amsterdam.
